Will Chris Buescher need those 10 positions he lost Friday night at Bristol when the season ends?

Buescher, the Xfinity points leader, gambled on fuel and ran out while in the lead just after the green-white-checker restart, allowing Kyle Busch to win the Food City 300.

Instead of winning, Buescher finished 11th. Instead of padding his points lead, he saw his lead shrink to 19 points on Ty Dillon with 11 Xfinity races left. Dillon finished fourth Friday.

“We’re willing to take chances to win these races,’' said Buescher, who led 106 of 300 laps. “Obviously, the points championship at the end of the day is going to be real important, but when you have cars as good as our Mustang was today, you’ve got to go for it. I’ve said it before that I’m not a fan of points racing because it prevents you from taking chances like this and getting the opportunity to be that close to winning.’'

Busch scored his third series win of the season and 73rd of his career.

“Lucky for him we did run out of fuel because we had one tonight,’' Buescher said.
