Hendrick Motorsports has announced its first contribution to the parade of retro paint schemes to be used in the Sept. 6 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, broadcast by NBC.
Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48 Chevrolet will bear the Lowe’s Home Improvement logo from the 1940’s and 50’s. Lowe’s was founded in 1946, fours years before Darlington opened.
Johnson’s paint schemes joins those being raced by Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart and Austin Dillon.
In 16 starts at Darlington, Johnson has three wins with the most recent coming in 2012.
