Carl Edwards topped the speed charts in Friday’s Sprint Cup practice session at Michigan International Speedway.
Edwards covered the high-speed, two-mile track with a field-best speed of 196.046 mph.
Edwards’ speed was more than one mph faster than the next fastest driver, Kevin Harvick (194.858 mph).
Austin Dillon was third-fastest (194.679 mph), followed by Tony Stewart (194.610) and Denny Hamlin (194.133).
This was the only practice session scheduled for Friday. Qualifying takes place at 5:05 pm ET (on NBCSN).
There will be two other Sprint Cup practice sessions on Saturday (8:30-9:25 am ET and 11:30 am – 12:25 pm ET).
Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 takes the green flag at 2:30 pm ET.
