Motorsport.com reports that NASCAR told Sprint Cup competitors this weekend at Watkins Glen International that the sanctioning body will likely stay with the current aerodynamic package for the upcoming Chase for the Sprint Cup.
The information was relayed when NASCAR met with competitors to discuss the various aero packages and schedule the next drivers council meeting.
The report states that NASCAR plans to use the low-downforce package - used last month at Kentucky and next month at Darlington - at most tracks next season.
If the high-drag package is successful next weekend at Michigan International Speedway, it could be used at that track, Auto Club Speedway and Pocono Raceway next year.
“It’s good for us all to have that open dialogue,” Joey Logano told Motorsport.com. “There’s really no meeting structure. It’s just, ‘hey, what did you think?’ Then we talk it out. I though it was a good back and forth and that’s what we need.”
