Joey Logano wins Xfinity race at Watkins Glen

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y . – Joey Logano backed up his track-record pole position, winning Saturday’s Zippo 200 at The Glen.

It was the first NASCAR win at Watkins Glen International for the Team Penske driver.

Logano hung on for the win after a restart with five laps remaining on the 2.45-mile road course. Teammate Brad Keselowski finished second, followed by points leader Chris Buescher, Boris Said and Ty Dillon.
How Joey Logano won:The Team Penske driver started from the pole, traded the lead with teammate Brad Keselowski and soldiered back from a penalty for leaving the pits with a fuel can. Logano drove from seventh to first on a restart past halfway and led the rest of the way.

Who else had a good race:Keselowski also overcame adversity, rebounding from a speeding penalty to finish second. … Defending series champion Chase Elliott (seventh) managed to overcome an early spin and a pit miscue to grind out a top 10. … Points leader Chris Buescher (third) avoided the mayhem to strengthen his grip on the championship race.

Who had a bad race:Kyle Larson broke an axle early in the race after starting fourth. … John Wes Townley finished 39th because of a fire underneath his car. … After making contact earlier with JR Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott, Regan Smith spun with 16 laps remaining and damaged his No. 7 Camaro. … Seemingly everyone anyone who entered the pits Saturday: There were more than two dozen penalties, ranging from excessive speeding, driving through too many pit stalls and failure to remove equipment … Paul Menard was headed for a top five before being spun after contact with teammate Brian Scott on a late restart.… Kenny Habul was headed toward a career-best finish when he suffered contact with Brendan Gaughan and Ryan Reed while running in the top 10. The impacts destroyed the front end of Habul’s car, leaving it smoking in the pits.

Notable: It was Logano’s 25th career victory and fourth of 2015. ... Daniel Suarez was the highest-finishing rookie in 15th. ... Boris Said finished fourth, his best Xfinity Series finish since a win at Montreal five years ago.
