LONG POND, Pa. - Jeff Gordon remains steadfast that when he climbs out of his stock car after the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November, that will be the end of his NASCAR Sprint Cup career.

Gordon was asked Friday at Pocono Raceway if the fan reaction to his last visit to Indianapolis Motor Speedway last weekend might lead him to run one more race there or somewhere else next season. Gordon was emphatic.

“Right now, I don’t have any plans to,’' Gordon said. “You have to understand it’s far more than just what maybe I would desire or want to do. It takes a team to do it. And that’s a total disruption to the organization to go do a one-off race. It’s not that it can’t be done. But, as somebody who is an equity owner in the organization, I recognize the challenges that would come along with that and what it would do to our four teams competing for the wins and championships.

“So, I probably wouldn’t ask them to do that. And if I were going to do it, it would probably be at a short track like Martinsville or something like that. But, I have no plans to do that.”

Gordon heads into Sunday’s race at Pocono seeking his first victory of the season. He ranks 11th in the points standings - second among non-winners - after placing 42nd last weekend at Indy when he hit the wall trying to avoid Clint Bowyer’s incident.
