Jeff Gordon, in his last Brickyard 400, was involved in a Lap 50 accident with Clint Bowyer.

The accident occurred on a restart between Turns 3 and 4 when Bowyer bounced off a car and turned sideways. Gordon, racing near the 15th position next to Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kasey Kahne, bounced off the No. 5 car and turned right to avoid the spinning No. 15 of Bowyer.

The nose of Gordon’s No. 24 bounced off the outside wall before the car continued to spin and came to a rest in Turn 4.

Gordon went to pit road twice for repairs to the left side of his car but after running in 42, five laps down, Gordon took his car to the garage on Lap 72. Bowyer is 27th a lap down.

“Me and Kasey were just trying to check up to avoid it,” Gordon to NBCSN in the garage. “I don’t know if he got loose, or we both got loose together, but then I just lost control and got in the wall.”

Gordon said the splitter on the No. 24 was “too torn up” and was creating too much lift and the team would likely replace the entire nose.
