In his first visit there, Daniel Suarez discovered Friday he has quite a knack for Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Recording the fastest speed of the 40 drivers that took to the track for the final Xfinity Series practice session for Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250, the Mexican native was almost 1.5 miles faster than veteran driver Kyle Busch.
Suarez covered the 2.5-mile layout at IMS with a strong field-best run of 176.810 mph, while Busch’s speed was at 175.466 mph.
Even though he skimmed the wall and sustained some damage to the right rear of his Chevrolet (video), Kyle Larson was third-fastest (174.907 mph), followed by Erik Jones (174.842) and Brian Scott (174.432).
