The Race Team Alliance is ready to “Rev The Vote” to encourage race fans to register to vote, it was announced Friday during a press conference at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

U.S. Congressmen Heath Shuler (D-NC) and Connie Mack (R-Fla) announced that Rev the Vote, a nonpartisan Washington D.C.-based organization, has partnered with RTA to increase voter registration and participation in national and local elections among race fans.

Teams will use a number of resources at their disposal to get the message out, including social and digital outreach, at-track experiences, pit box seating, meet-and-greet sessions with drivers, hospitality and activation, according to a media release.

“This is a first,” said Shuler, a former football star at the University of Tennessee and NFL quarterback. “While other initiatives have targeted motorsports racing fans in the past, this agreement creates a unique partnership, where the racing industry’s owners and teams will be assisting in delivering the message to its incredibly loyal fans about the importance of civil engagement.”

The RTA was formed last season and is comprised of 17 of the top organizations that compete in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.

“This is a significant announcement for the RTA and its members,” RTA Chairman Rob Kauffman said. “The RTA was formed to have a collective voice and it is an honor that Rev the Vote selected the power of that voice to deliver an important message to American racing fans everywhere about registering to vote. We know racing fans like to be heard and we will promote taking that passion to the voting booth.”
