Germain Racing has announced its No. 13 Geico Chevrolet will continue to be driven by Casey Mears in the 2016 Sprint Cup season.

Mears, currently in his 13th season of racing at NASCAR’s top level, has signed to return to the No. 13 for his sixth season. Mears originally joined the team for 12 of the last 13 races of 2010 after spending the season with three other teams, including Richard Childress Racing.

“I think that it’s been a long time in the making here at Germain Racing, being competitive at the Cup level,” Mears said in a team release. “It’s been a long process to get the GEICO program to where we are now. We are finally starting to see some of the benefits from all the hard work from the last four or five years.”

During his five years in the No. 13, Mears has recorded five top 10s and one top-five finish.

Mears, the nephew of IndyCar legend Rick Mears, hasn’t earned multiple top-five finishes since he had five in 2007, the first of two seasons with Hendrick Motorsports. That year he also earned his only Sprint Cup win in a gas mileage gamble in the Coca Cola 600.

“He’s been an integral part of the team’s growth and success over the past 5 years and I am confident he can continue to help us move forward and reach our goals,” said team owner Bob Germain, Jr. “We’ve come a long way as a team, and assembled a group of extremely talented people who enjoy working together. As the team owner, that’s really the thing I’m most proud of. And, of course, the long term support of GEICO has given us the stability we needed to make it all happen.”
