Rain, wet track still delaying NASCAR practice at Kentucky

SPARTA, Ky. – For the second consecutive day at Kentucky Speedway, inclement weather scuttled NASCAR practice Thursday morning.

An 8 a.m. session for the Camping World Truck Series was postponed by steady rain in the morning. Track drying began shortly before 10 a.m. as it slowed to a light drizzle. But after an hour of working on the 1.5-mile surface, weepers (water seeping through the asphalt) continued to hamper efforts to dry the track.

NASCAR scrubbed two two-hour Sprint Cup practice sessions Wednesday after four hours of unsuccessfully battling weepers in trying to dry the asphalt. A Sprint Cup practice was added for 11 a.m.-12:55 p.m. Thursday but is now on hold.

Saturday’s Quaker State 400 will mark the debut of a lower-downforce rules package, which is why NASCAR added the four hours of Wednesday practice.

NASCAR officials have said they still plan to move ahead with the new rules despite the interruption in practice time.
