SPARTA, Ky. – Rain washed away Sprint Cup practice for the second consecutive day at Kentucky Speedway.

After showers in the morning and a persistent mist, NASCAR canceled a session scheduled for 11 a.m.-12:55 p.m. Thursday.

The practice had been added after two two-hour practices Wednesday were scrubbed because of a damp track. Though the rain had stopped in mid-afternoon, track drying was hampered by persistent weepers (water seeping through the asphalt).

The Wednesday practices were added so teams could have extra time to prepare for the debut of a lower-downforce rules package in Saturday night’s Quaker State 400. NASCAR officials have said they still plan to race with the new arrangement despite the loss of practice.

Sprint Cup teams still were scheduled to be on track again for nearly three hours of practice Friday.
