It took 20 races and a few late-race cautions for Spencer Gallagher to earn his best-carer finish in the Camping World Truck Series.

The GMS Racing rookie started 14th last weekend in the Drivin’ for Linemen 200 at Gateway Motorsports Park and at the end of the night found him and his No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet in second place.

In his previous 19 races as driver in the CWTS, Gallagher, 25, had never finished better than 10th in a non-restrictor plate race.

“Our Allegiant Travel team’s second-place finish last week was huge for us, and definitely gives us added confidence and something to build on,” Gallagher said in a release. "(Crew chief) Jeff (Stankiewicz) is making great calls on pit road and we’re making our Allegiant Travel Chevrolets better each time we go to the racetrack.”

Now Gallagher enters tonight’s American Ethanol 200 at Iowa Speedway looking got capitalize on his second career top-five finish.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Iowa (Speedway),” Gallagher said in a release. “It’s a place we have run well in the past in the ARCA (Racing Series) and had our second-best finish of the season in the NCWTS last year. It’s such a perfect match for our trucks.

“There are multiple lanes because you’re always looking around for grip, and there are some sizable bumps in Turns 1 and 2,” said Gallagher, who recorded the fourth best practice speed Friday morning.

In last year’s Iowa race, Gallagher finished 11th after starting 21st. Gallagher will be using the same chassis he had in the Truck race at Dover International Speedway, where he ran in the top five near the race’s mid-point before finishing 12th.
