Jimmie Johnson is helping defray the cost of building four houses in Johnson’s hometown with Habitat for Humanity’s Foundation Lane.

Johnson and his wife, Chandra, will visit El Cajon, Calif., Tuesday to present the charity with $50,000 from the Sprint Cup driver’s foundation to go toward building the homes next week.

This is phase two of a project that began in 2009 when Johnson and his foundation donated almost $1 million to Habitat for Humanity to build four houses.

“Chandra and I are extremely excited to see phase two of this development become a reality,” Johnson said in a release. “It’s great to see the progress of the families from phase one. We are proud to partner with Lowe’s, local builders and Habitat for Humanity to expand Foundation Lane and provide homes for more families.”

Lowes, Johnson’s primary sponsor in the Sprint Cup Series, has also contributed $50,000 to the building efforts.

When completed, the four homes will be sold to Habitat for Humanity Partner Families who qualify based on the organization’s family selection criteria, which includes “a demonstrated need for improved housing, the ability to repay an affordable mortgage, and willingness to partner with Habitat by completing 250-500 sweat-equity hours before moving into the homes.”
