Chase Elliott’s Darlington paint scheme honors father’s ‘Winston Million’ victory

NAPAthrowback1

Ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday, Hendrick Motorsports has unveiled the paint scheme Chase Elliott will sport in the September 6 Sprint Cup race at Darlington Raceway.

While the colors and sponsor are different, the paint scheme is intended to evoke the one used by his father, Bill Elliott, when he won the 1985 Southern 500 and the “Winston Million.”

“I’m really looking forward to seeing this car on the track at Darlington,” Chase Elliott said in a release. “It’s one of my favorite schemes that my dad raced and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of him winning the million dollars is very cool. I appreciate NAPA for letting us do this and I hope the fans enjoy it as much as I am going to.”

The Bojangles’ Southern 500, which will air on NBC, will be Chase Elliott’s last Sprint Cup race of 2015 before he takes over the No. 24 for the retiring Jeff Gordon in 2016.
