Joey Logano said “it would be cool” to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the marathon sports car race taking place this weekend in Le Mans, France. But don’t expect to see the Team Penske driver deviating from his goal of winning a Sprint Cup championship.
“Most of the time you are so focused on what you are doing right now, which for me is racing in NASCAR and trying to win a Sprint Cup championship,” Logano said Friday at Michigan International Speedway. “That is my number one goal right now, and I don’t want to take anything away from that because I feel like I owe that to my team. They work their guts out, and I should work my guts out and have one goal and focus 100 percent on it.
The topic was brought up after Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates announced it would be partnering with Ford to race in the 2016 race in Le Mans. Logano, winner of the 2015 Daytona 500, said he would take advantage of the opportunity to race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, which is run in January.
“Over the winter, running the Rolex 24 would be really cool,” Logano said. “If that opportunity came up some day, I think I would take it because it would be fun to go through it and get to drive those cars and learn what it is like and just go through the whole experience. Obviously, that is a crown jewel event and one that you really want to win. It would be cool to have the opportunity someday.”
This year’s 24 hours of Daytona was won by Chip Ganassi’s team of Jamie McMurray, Kyle Larson, Scott Dixon and Tony Kanaan. Larson said Friday he expected to again race in that event next year.
