Separate bursts by Chase Elliott and Aric Almirola late in practice put them at the top of the Xfinity Series speed chart Friday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway.

Elliott (191.215 mph) turned in the fastest performance in the final minute of practice. He was followed by Almirola (190.446 mph) and Brian Scott (190.285 mph).

Xfinity points leader Chris Buescher (190.285) was fourth with Darrell Wallace Jr. (190.134) fifth.

Making his first practice attempt in the Xfinity Series since suffering a broken right leg and fractured left foot in the series’ season-opening race at Daytona in February, Kyle Busch was seventh (190.019).

Friday’s first scheduled session, which was supposed to go from 1 to 2 pm ET, was rained out.

That meant the second session was the only attempt teams had at practice for Saturday’s Great Clips 250 Benefiting Paralyzed Veterans of America.
