Kyle Larson made a rare appearance in a sprint car race Wednesday night, running with the World of Outlaws at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway. Larson finished third in the race won by Joey Saldana. Rico Abreu, who is focusing on NASCAR in the K&N Pro Series East, also ran Wednesday night. He finished sixth after posting quick time in qualifying.

“I always have a blast when I run a winged sprint car, especially here at Kokomo, this is one of my favorite tracks,’' Larson said in a post-race interview on the pa system. “Glad I got to come run.’'

Larson thanked car owner Chip Ganassi for allowing him to do so.

“Hopefully I can come back out and run a sprint car soon,’' said Larson, who last ran a sprint car in January.

Larson had a better night than his driver, Shane Stewart, who cut a tire while running third and finished 19th. Stewart drives for Larson Marks Racing, a team co-owned by Larson and Justin Marks.

Donny Schatz, who drives for Tony Stewart Racing, finished second in the event. Schatz leads the points. Stewart is 139 points behind in second.

Kasey Kahne Racing did not have a good night. Brad Sweet crashed while running fourth and finished 20th. Daryn Pittman placed 12th.
