Landon Cassill caps memorable week with best prize of all

landon cassill iowa 2015

Maybe Landon Cassill should try his luck with Powerball or Mega Millions – or perhaps start using the nickname “Lucky” – because things have certainly been going his way of late.

After a strong 17th-place run in last week’s Xfinity Series race at Charlotte, Cassill admittedly struggled the next day in the Sprint Cup Coca-Cola 600, finishing 39th.

But there was no stopping Cassill, who climbed out of his car, laced on his running shoes and ran 14 miles from Charlotte Motor Speedway to the NASCAR Hall of Fame immediately after NASCAR’s longest race of the year.

It gets even better:

Not only did he pick up a new sponsor (CRC Automotive ) for Sunday’s FedEx 400 Benefitting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway, Cassill left the best for last.

The 25-year-old Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native and wife Katie welcomed their first child, son Beckham Bear Alan Cassill, into the world on May 27.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better week,” Cassill said in a media release. “Both mom and son are doing great and I got Katie’s blessing to hop on a plane Friday morning to get behind the wheel of the CRC Brakleen car at Dover.’'
