Hendrick Motorsports appealing penalty to Jimmie Johnson’s team

NASCAR confirmed Thursday that Hendrick Motorsports will appeal the P1 penalty issued to Jimmie Johnson’s team this week for receiving warnings in two consecutive events.

NASCAR had stated it would penalize Johnson’s team by making it select its pit stall after the rest of the field for this weekend’s race at Dover International Speedway.

With the penalty being appealed – no hearing date has been set – the pit selection penalty will be deferred, allowing Johnson’s team to pick its stall based on how it qualifies.

Johnson’s team received a warning for modifying its side skirt at the Sprint All-Star Race two weeks ago and received a warning last week for needing too many attempts at prequalifying inspection for the Coca-Cola 600.
