Carolina Panther Thomas Davis to drive pace car for Coca-Cola 600

Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will be the honorary pace car driver for the May 24 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Davis, a recipient of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award, joins a number of NFL players who have served as honorary pace car drivers for NASCAR events.

That list includes Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, who drove the pace car at Richmond in April 2014. Others include Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who drove the pace car at Kansas Speedway in May 2014; Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly, who drove the pace car for last year’s Sprint All-Star Race; Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who drove the pace car at Texas Motor Speedway in April 2014; New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman, who drove the pace car at New Hampshire in July 2014.
