Erik Jones set a new track record during Camping World Truck Series qualifying to take the pole for Friday night’s Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway. Jones’ speed was 179.396 mph, nearly 2 mph faster than second-fastest Matt Crafton (177.509 mph).
“I just wanted to get a lap in and make sure everything was good, so that was a bonus of it,” Jones told Fox Sports 1. “I’m excited for the race tonight and think we have a truck good enough to win.
“It’s nice to start out front and hopefully we can stay up there and control the race.”
Brandon Jones was third fastest (177.142 mph), followed by Ryan Newman (176.748) and Ben Kennedy (176.269).
BK Racing teammates Austin Theriault and Tyler Reddick were involved in a wreck during the second round of qualifying.
