CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Dale Earnhardt Jr. has given fans a behind-the-scenes look at some media work at Hendrick Motorsports, a NAPA appearance in Las Vegas and the opening of his Whisky River restaurant in the Charlotte, N.C., airport this week via the app Periscope, which shows video in real time on social media.

So what’s next?

“I don’t know whether it will be something I do consistently or continue to do, but we’ve been talking about some ideas on how we can use it,’’ Earnhardt said Wednesday after opening Whisky River in Concourse E at the nation’s eighth busiest airport.

Earnhardt, who won last weekend’s Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway, has elicited some help on what to do on Periscope from teammate Jimmie Johnson, who finished second in that race.

“Jimmie is super, super smart about social media, so I talked to him about it a little bit and said, ‘Man think about some things we can do,‘’ Earnhardt said. “ ‘Get your brain running on this because we could do some fun stuff, and I’d like to do it together,’ so we’ll see what happens.’’

Earnhardt, who has 968,000 Twitter followers, says he’s a fan of comedian Jim Gaffigan and enjoys how Gaffigan will show mundane events in his life on Periscope.

“You get a real good judge of a person’s character by seeing them in their environment,’’ Earnhardt said.

Might Earnhardt show similar things as Gaffigan on Periscope?

“A lot of people that are fans of ours really haven’t had a chance to really have any real interaction,’’ Earnhardt said. “So it maybe gives them an idea of my real personality. I don’t know. We’ll just have to see what happens.’’

One thing Earnhardt is certain about is how he wants to enjoy each victory. He was up to the early hours Monday after his Talladega win, which all but assured him a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.

“Pretty much everybody but my tire guy came by to the house after the race and we hung out until about 5 or 6 in the morning,’’ Earnhardt said. “It was fun. We always try to not to take those wins for granted.

“I’ll be real disappointed when the time comes that we win a race and everybody doesn’t come over. I don’t care if it’s Sonoma, they better get there at 5 in the morning straight from the airport because you don’t know which one is going to be the last win.’’
