Hendrick Motorsports announced Tuesday that Chase Elliott will be entered in the Sprint Showdown May 15 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

He’ll drive the No. 25 Chevrolet with Napa as sponsor.

The Sprint Showdown features two 20-lap segments. Each segment winner advances to the Sprint All-Star Race, which is May 16.

“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to run the Showdown,” Elliott said in a release from the team. “It allows me to gain more experience with my Napa Auto Parts team before we race again at Charlotte a week later.”

The event is the same weekend as a Xfinity race at Iowa Speedway. Elliott will commute to those events.

Elliott made his Cup debut March 29 at Martinsville Speedway, placing 38th. His next start came April 26 at Richmond International Raceway. He finished 16th.

Elliott is scheduled to compete in the May 24 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, the July 26 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Sept. 6 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
