Denny Hamlin provided an update on his neck as he prepares for a busy week by competing in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown Late Model race for charity on Thursday at South Boston (Va.) Speedway and this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity and Sprint Cup races at Richmond International Raceway.
This comes after Hamlin pulled himself from last weekend’s Cup race at Bristol because of neck spasms after 22 laps. Erik Jones replaced Hamlin and finished 26th.
“Obviously, getting out of the car on Sunday was a very tough decision, and Erik did an admirable job under difficult circumstances,’’ Hamlin said in a release from his team. “After treatment this week, I feel close to 100 percent, and I’m confident that I’ll be good to go this weekend in Richmond. It’s a great track for our team, and one that means a lot to me personally.’’
Hamlin has two Cup and two Xfinity wins at Richmond.
