Car owner Richard Childress was elected second vice president of the National Rifle Association during its annual meeting last weekend in Nashville, Tenn. The term is for two years.

Childress spent two terms on the NRA’s Board of Directors. Since 2010, he’s served as Chairman of the Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Committee.

“I am both honored and humbled by my election to the second vice president position by my fellow NRA Board Members,” Childress said in a statement. “We have more than five million members of the NRA, and I am going to give it my all to serve them well.

“Protecting the Second Amendment for the right to keep and bear arms is one of the most important ones in our Constitution. I am very proud as an American and member of the NRA to take on this key leadership position.’’
