Three-time Sprint Cup champion crew chief Ray Evernham and veteran motorsports broadcaster Ralph Sheeheen will be behind the mic for all 14 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Whelen Southern Modified Tour events this season on NBCSN.
The announcement was made Wednesday by Jeff Behnke, Vice President of NASCAR Production for NBC Sports and NBCSN.
This is the 30th season for the Whelen Modified Tour. The Southern Tour was added in 2005. Both are the only open-wheeled series under NASCAR sanction.
The first broadcast for Evernham and Sheheen will be the 41st running of the “Icebreaker” from Thompson (Conn.) Speedway Motorsports Park. The event will air at 12:30 am ET Saturday.
“I grew up watching and racing modifieds and still get goose bumps every time I watch them race,” Evernham said in an NBC media release. “I am really looking forward to being part of NBCSN’s motorsports coverage.”
Added Sheheen, “Big power, open wheels and passionate fans — the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours might be the coolest series in racing. Ray and I are going to have a lot of fun calling these races.”
