Carl Edwards will have an extra incentive to win Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Should he do so, sponsor Stanley will donate $1 million to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through the Ace Hardware Foundation. Regardless of how Edwards does in the Duck Commander 500, the “Racing for a Miracle” program will pledge $100,000 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals..
Edwards has three wins at Texas Motor Speedway, ranking second on the track’s all-time list among NASCAR drivers, trailing only Jimmie Johnson’s four wins there.
“It’s a huge honor, it’s humbling for Stanley and Ace Hardware Foundation to put this much on the line, and to do it at a track at which we feel like we can win, that is really cool,’’ Edwards said in a media release from the team. “We’ll go to Texas, we’ll have a good time and build on the things we’ve learned. We’ve run really well. We’re coming off a (Joe Gibbs Racing) win at Martinsville and a really fun race. So hopefully it’s just a great time and a great result.”
Denny Hamlin’s win at Martinsville was the first for Joe Gibbs Racing in nearly a year. Edwards, in his first season at JGR, is 17th in the points. His best finish this year is a 12th at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
