Sunday saw Buescher’s first Cup start. He finished 20th on the lead lap.
Buescher, 22, drove the car last weekend after Brett Moffitt, who was to have driven the car, was tabbed to fill in for Brian Vickers after Vickers suffered a reoccurrence of blood clots. Michael Waltrip Racing confirmed to NASCAR Talk that Moffitt will drive in Vickers’ place in the No. 55 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota at Martinsville.
Michael Waltrip Racing has not announced any plans for who will drive the No. 55 car beyond Martinsville.
Vickers is out at least three months with blood clots. Moffitt drove for Vickers at Atlanta, finishing eight. Moffitt placed 22nd at Auto Club Speedway.
Buescher has never attempted a start at the Virginia short track. Moffitt won a rain-shortened K&N Pro Series East Series race at the track in 2010 while serving as a development driver for Joe Gibbs Racing.
