Derrike Cope got one heck of a buzz going Friday at Auto Club Speedway.
The trailer of the Xfinity Series driver and 1990 Daytona 500 winner was inundated by a massive swarm of bees.

A call to a local pest control company eventually led to eradication of the interlopers.

But while Cope stayed out of harms way with the bees, he still got stung later – not by a bee, but by mechanical issues when he blew up the primary engine in his car.
That led to an engine change that will force the team to start at the back of the field for Saturday afternoon’s Xfinity Series race.
