Number crunching: A look at key numbers after Phoenix NASCAR Sprint Cup race

A few numbers of note after Sunday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway:

2 – Teams that will be penalized 15 minutes of practice time in the first session this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. Matt DiBenedetto’s BK Racing team was penalized for failing pre-qualifying inspection more than two times. Alex Bowman’s Tommy Baldwin Racing team did not get into line for pre-race inspection on time.

4 – Drivers who were outside the top 20 in points after four races last year and went on to make the Chase. Those where Aric Almirola (20th), Kevin Harvick (21st), AJ Allmendinger (25th) and Kurt Busch (31st).

5.8 – Average finish for Martin Truex Jr. in the first four races of this season.

6.3 – Average number of positions AJ Allmendinger has gained in the final 10 percent of races this season. Ranks first in series in category.

7 – Consecutive top-2 finishes by Phoenix winner Kevin Harvick.
