After a strong 15th-place finish in his return to the Sprint Cup Series last Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Brian Vickers suffered misfortune early in Sunday’s CampingWorld.com 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

Vickers was exiting Turn 4 on Lap 2 when his car turned to the right and into the outside wall. His Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota suffered damage to the right front, forcing the No. 55 Camry to the garage.

Vickers returned to the race on Lap 84, 81 laps off the lead lap.

When asked what happened in the incident, Vickers told Fox Sports, “I have no idea. I’d love to see the replay. It’s a shame, this Aaron’s Dream Machine was really good in practice and I felt good about the first lap. I was coming out of 4, was all clear, was against the wall, and then just got threw up from behind and turned into the wall. It seems kind of early to be using the bumper.“
