Additional tire packs will be installed inside Turn 1 as a safety and protective measure for next weekend’s NASCAR races at Auto Club Speedway, track president Dave Allen announced Thursday.

The tire packs will be a temporary measure for the Drive4Clots.com 300 Xfinity Series race on March 21 and the Auto Club 400 Sprint Cup race on March 22.

Following completion of the race weekend, ACS will begin installing additional SAFER barriers along both the frontstretch and backstretch walls.

When the project is completed, the entire frontstretch and backstretch areas of ACS will be protected by SAFER barriers in advance of the 2016 race season.

Other safety enhancements may also be added, Allen said.

“The safety of drivers, and our fans and staff is, and always has been, a top priority,” Allen said. “As part of our continued commitment to safety, we will work hand-in-hand with NASCAR and all sanctioning bodies that race at our track to make improvements that will further enhance safety.”
