Returning to racing Sunday proved to be the best medicine for Brian Vickers.
Having missed the season’s first two Sprint Cup races while recovering from off-season heart surgery, Vickers judged his first start of 2015 a success in Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“A top-15, considering where we were at three months ago, I’ll take it,” said Vickers, who finished 15th.
When asked how he felt after waiting so long for Sunday to come, Vickers all but gushed.
“It’s incredible,” he said. “It feels so good to be back in a race car. So happy, so thankful. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever be here again.
“You always want to do better, you always want to win, but I think for us this was a victory in a lot of ways.’'
