Las Vegas Motor Speedway has made some safety modifications for this weekend’s NASCAR races there, but it does not include adding tire barriers, according to a track spokesperson.

The track has made modifications to the barriers at the opening on pit road as well as extending a barrier at one of the cutouts in Turn 3, Jeff Motley, vice president of public relations at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, told NASCAR Talk via email.

Motley confirmed that the track has not been asked to place any tire barriers along any of its walls.

Chris Powell, president of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, said in a statement that the recommendations were made by NASCAR. He also said that conversations with NASCAR will continue after this weekend’s Xfinity and Sprint Cup races to “make the best safety solutions available for Las Vegas Motor Speedway.”

Daytona International Speedway placed tire barriers along a concrete wall inside Turn 1 shortly after Kyle Busch struck that area and suffered a broken right leg and left foot in a crash during last month’s Xfinity race.

Atlanta Motor Speedway added 117 feet of tire barriers along the inside wall in Turn 4. The track also extended a wall at the exit of pit road to decrease an angle of impact of an inside curved wall.

Phoenix International Raceway announced this week that it is adding a tire barrier along the inside wall in Turn 4.
