A trailer with the NASCAR Sprint Cup car Travis Kvapil was to drive this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway was stolen overnight, Team Xtreme owner John Cohen confirmed.
Cohen said the team does not have another car and will withdraw from this weekend’s event at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Cohen said the team will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend.
The black Ford pickup, white trailer (both with New Jersey license plates) and the No. 44 car were taken early Friday morning from outside the team’s hotel in Morrow, Ga. A silver or gray Jeep Cherokee was spotted leaving the hotel at the time of the theft, according to a team statement issued Friday afternoon.
“That was a thief that stole that,’’ Cohen told NACAR Talk.
Cohen said that the team sent its hauler to the track early this week without the No. 44 car because of the bad weather forecasted. The team continued to work on the car in its shop before transporting it Thursday.
Team Xtreme did not participate in Thursday’s test session at Atlanta.
