Kyle Busch will spend a third consecutive night at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., as he recovers from injuries suffered in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race, a team spokesperson told NASCAR Talk.

Busch sustained a compound fracture of his lower right leg and a fracture of his left foot when his car careened head-first into a concrete wall inside Turn 1 at Daytona International Speedway. Busch had surgery on the right leg Saturday night.

Daytona track president Joie Chitwood announced a few hours after Busch’s crash that the speedway “is going to install SAFER barrier on every inch at this property. This is not going to happen again.’’

SAFER barriers, a combination of steel and foam, absorb the energy in an accident to lessen the chance of driver injury.

NASCAR Chairman Brian France said in an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Monday that the sanctioning body would improve its efforts with regards to track safety in light of Busch’s injury in the 10-car crash.

Matt Crafton drove Busch’s car to an 18th-place finish in Sunday’s Daytona 500. Joe Gibbs Racing has not announced who will drive Busch’s car this week at Atlanta Motor Speedway. JGR also has not stated how long Busch will be out.
