DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Kyle Busch will not compete in Sunday’s Daytona 500 after suffering a compound fracture of his lower right leg and mid-foot fracture of his left foot in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity race at Daytona International Speedway.

Busch underwent surgery Saturday night on his right leg.

Busch slammed nose-first into the inside Turn 1 wall on Lap 112 of the 120-lap race. Busch was one 10 drivers involved in a crash, which began when Busch got into the rear of teammate Erik Jones‘ car. Busch bounced off the side of Kyle Larson‘s car and rocketed though the grass before hitting the concrete wall, which was not protected by a SAFER barrier.

Joe Gibbs Racing announced that Matt Crafton will replace Busch in the No. 18 Toyota for Sunday’s race. Crafton is the two-time defending Camping World Truck champion. No replacement has been selected for any of the following Sprint Cup races.

Busch’s absence ends his streak of 110 consecutive Sprint Cup starts.
