Mike Wallace leads Xfinity final practice at Daytona

Mike Wallace made the Daytona 500 in last night’s Budweiser Duels. Brian Scott did not.

But both of them will compete in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway. And both of them were 1-2 in this afternoon’s final practice for that event, with Wallace’s 187.009 mph lap in the No. 26 JGL Racing Toyota eclipsing Scott’s 186.997 mph lap in the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.

Chad Boat was third-fastest with a lap of 186.931, followed by Jeremy Clements in fourth (186.305) and Ross Chastain in fifth (185.743).

Only 31 drivers posted times in “Happy Hour,” and the most laps run by any driver in the session was just 17 laps from 12th-place Cale Conley (185.189).

The Xfinity Series will run group qualifying on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. ET. The session will feature a variety of tweaks made to the format after last Sunday’s chaotic Daytona 500 group qualifying session.

Those tweaks include four groups in the first round, a reduced session time of two minutes, 30 seconds, and a single-file order in the pits to start.

The Alert Today Florida 300 (120 laps) goes green later that Saturday, shortly after 3:30 p.m. ET.
