Sunday’s Daytona 500 qualifying schedule and format

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona 500 qualifying takes place today but with everything at Daytona International Speedway things are different.

Here’s today’s schedule and information on the qualifying format:

1:30 p.m. ET - Sprint Cup qualifying (Fox, MRN)

Only the front row for the Daytona 500 is determined today. The speeds will set the lineups for Thursday’s qualifying races, which will set the Daytona 500 lineup.

Ryan Newman, who had an engine change Saturday is not eligible for the a front-row spot today.

Here’s a look at the qualifying format and which drivers are in each group for the opening round.
