Jordan Ives, nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief, Greg Ives, survived a fiery crash Saturday during a Super Late Model Series practice session at New Smyrna Speedway.

Jordan Ives, 16, said on his Facebook page that he was OK, stating: “Our week is down we backed it into the wall and the car caught on fire and burned to the ground but I’m ok.”

Pictures by speed51.com showed Jordan Ives’ car backing into the wall with a trail of fire chasing. The car came to a stop and soon was engulfed in fire. Ives exited the car, which was a smoking hulk of bent and twisted metal after the fire was extinguished.

Another picture from speed51.com showed a large black plume of smoke rising above the track. speed51.com also reported that some debris had to be scraped from the track after melting.

New Smyrna is hosting the 49th annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Jordan Ives finished 12th on Friday night in the race that Harrison Burton, son of Jeff Burton, won.
