A few days after his older brother, Sprint Cup driver Austin Dillon, won a U.M.P. Modified event at the DIRTcar Nationals, Xfinity Series driver Ty Dillon did the same in last night’s action at Volusia Speedway Park in Florida.
Taking advantage of traffic late during the 20-lap feature, Ty Dillon took the lead and held off Nick Hoffman and Kyle Strickler to win. Jake Hawkins followed in fourth and Austin Dillon rounded out the top five.
Other NASCAR notables included Kenny Wallace in eighth, Ken Schrader in 15th, Camping World Truck Series champion Matt Crafton in 17th, and Cup driver Justin Allgaier in 18th.
“I’ve been working hard for this,” Ty Dillon said in a release. “It’s just so cool all the North Carolina guys come down here and run so well. I knew Kyle was going to be tough to pass and I kind of had to slide across him there. I saw up on the board there was only 3 [laps] to go so I knew I had to make something happen.
“I’m proud of my guys, we’ve been coming down here for a long time. Volusia’s like a second home for us, coming to race at. I’m just so happy for everybody. This is so much fun. Got my Gator [trophy] this year, man. I’m happy and proud of all my guys for all the hard work.”
