After running full-time last season for Tommy Baldwin Racing, Sprint Cup veteran Reed Sorenson has picked up a program for this year’s Daytona 500 with Team Xtreme Racing (formerly Xxxtreme Motorsport).

Sorenson and his No. 44 Chevrolet will have primary sponsorship from Golden Corral and Peter Sospenzo as crew chief for the Great American Race.

“The 44 team has been hard at work over the offseason,” Xtreme owner John Cohen said in a statement. “We have made some big steps to further our efforts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and it all begins at Daytona.

“Hiring Reed Sorenson to drive for us at the 500 was the right move for our team. He excels at restrictor plate racing and we are excited to get to Daytona.”

Sorenson has made 11 career Cup starts at Daytona with a best finish of fifth in the 2008 Daytona 500 for Chip Ganassi Racing. He also finished ninth in the 2009 ‘500’ for Richard Petty Motorsports and eighth in the 2010 running for now-defunct Team Red Bull.

In last year’s 500 with TBR, Sorenson finished 16th. That was his second-best finish in 2014 behind a 14th-place showing in the fall at NASCAR’s other restrictor-plate facility, Talladega Superspeedway.

“The Daytona 500 is always an exciting time of year, I am really looking forward to racing with Team Xtreme for the biggest race of the year,” said Sorenson in the same release. “We’ve got a great looking Golden Corral Chevrolet and I want to see us feed some kids on Monday with the ‘Top 10 Kids Eat Free’ promotion.”

Cohen’s Team Xtreme made eight starts in 2014, six with J.J. Yeley and two with Timmy Hill.
