Joey Logano admits to having thoughts about how his bid for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship ended at Homestead-Miami Speedway last fall.
You can’t blame him, really.
With less than 20 laps to go, Logano was running in the Top 10 and still had an opportunity to win his first Cup title. But during a yellow-flag stop, his No. 22 Team Penske Ford fell off the jack and ruined his hopes – a tough way to end what had been the best season of his career.
“The weekend was going well, we qualified good, we were up front, we lost our handle on the track a little bit and then we had a mistake,” Logano told NASCAR AMERICA’s Marty Snider in a one-on-one interview. “That’s racing. I make plenty of mistakes throughout the races – sometimes, you people don’t see it and sometimes, you do see.
“But obviously, this was right in the limelight and sometimes as you know, when you’re in front of the light, that attracts even more bugs.”
However, Logano chooses not to brood over that moment. Instead, he looks at it with the belief that it will help him one day.
“We learned from that, and that’s really valuable,” he said. “I don’t take the whole experience as a negative and say, ‘Man, we gave away a shot at it.’ I take it as an experience that I learned a lot from, and I can use this experience later on.”
