Martin Truex Jr. hits the wall and is forced into an early exit at Texas Motor Speedway after losing his front right tire.

The race days of Martin Truex Jr and Kyle Larson ended early at Texas Motor Speedway when each lost a right-front tire and wrecked.

Truex’s wrecked out on Lap 80 when his No. 78 Toyota slammed into the frontstretch wall.

Truex, who won a series-record seven races on 1.5-mile tracks last year, was in second when the accident occurred. He was just over 11 seconds behind race leader Kevin Harvick.

It is his first DNF of the year and his first since the Talladega playoff race last October (12 races).

“Just blew a right-front tire out of nowhere,” Truex said. “Not sure what happened there, if we run something over or what. I think the first set of tires that came off the car looked great. We were just making our way towards the front. ... Would’ve been nice to have at least finished that first stage before it happened, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes.”

The defending Cup champion had top fives in each of the last five races.

Truex had 13 consecutive top 10s and 10 consecutive top fives on 1.5-mile tracks dating to last year.

Larson followed on Lap 127 when his right front gave out, sending his No. 42 Chevrolet into the Turn 1 wall. The impact caused a fire to erupt from the engine, but Larson exited unscathed. It is the Chip Ganassi Racing driver’s first DNF this season.

“I’m OK, thanks to NASCAR and their safety because that was a huge hit,” Larson told FS1. “I was pretty tight but didn’t really expect to blow a right front.”
