Daniel Suarez and Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin were fastest in the second Cup practice for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Suarez posted a top speed at 198.998 mph around the 1.5-mile track.
Hamlin followed at 198.800 mph.
The top five was completed by William Byron (198.741), Jimmie Johnson (198.639) and Kevin Harvick (198.180).
Ryan Newman recorded the most laps (36). He also posted the best 10-lap average at 195.483 mph.
The session was red-flagged with about 18 minutes left after Ricky Stenhouse Jr made contact with the wall. Stenhouse will go to a backup car and start from the rear on Sunday.
Cup teams have one more practice scheduled this afternoon.
