Chase Elliott falls short of a fourth straight runner-up at Michigan

Chase Elliott and Joey Logano recap their day at Michigan after finishing eighth and 28th respectively.

Kyle Larson won for the third consecutive time at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, but Chase Elliott’s own run of consecutive runner-up finishes there came to an end at three.

Elliott finished second in both races at the 2-mile, high-speed oval last season, as well as in June’s race there, but not Sunday, when he finished eighth.

While Elliott still came away with a top-10 finish, he wasn’t happy about it because he still hasn’t locked in his place in the upcoming NASCAR Cup playoffs.

“We fought hard, definitely have some work to do these next couple weeks,” Elliott said. “It was a solid weekend, but nothing great. We’ll keep fighting and go on to the next one.

“We’re going to have great days to really fight for this deal. We’ll keep pushing and see where it goes.”
