ISC spending $30 million to redevelop Richmond Raceway infield

Richmond

International Speedway Corp. announced a $30 million redevelopment project of Richmond Raceway’s infield on Tuesday.

The project will begin after the Sept. 9 Monster Energy Cup race and be completed by fall 2018 in time for the Sept. 22 race there that will be in the Cup playoffs.

The project includes new garages for teams, an infield plaza for fans and a new media center. The track anticipates being able to accommodate 8,800 fans in the infield fan zone. Fans will have garage access and be able to witness victory lane activities.

“We know as a sport one of the biggest things we can hang our hats on is our fan involvement,’' said Virginia native Elliott Sadler at the news conference. “We don’t have a sport without our fans.’'

This is third major redevelopment project for ISC. The company redeveloped Daytona International Speedway, a $400 million project that was completed before the 2016 Daytona 500, and is in the middle of a $178 million redevelopment project at Phoenix International Raceway, scheduled to be completed next fall.
