Kyle Larson raced from last to second at Kentucky Speedway, but a penalty may have cost him a chance at the win.

Kyle Larson passed a lot of cars Saturday in the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway.

But the only car he couldn’t seem to pass was the one that belonged to race winner Martin Truex Jr.

Larson started last following not making a qualifying attempt Friday and went on to finish second. It’s his sixth runner-up result of the year for the points leader. Larson had to come through the field twice after receiving a speeding penalty mid-race.

“I don’t know what we could have done to beat him,” Larson told NBCSN. “I had the second-best car today and it would have been interesting to get a restart with him.”

Larson’s No. 42 Chevrolet was the first car with four fresh tires on the overtime finish. But Truex was too far away once Larson got to second after restarting fourth.
