CONCORD, N.C. – After consulting with the six Cup drivers who raced Saturday in the Xfinity Series at Charlotte Motor Speedway, NASCAR reapplied the VHT compound for the Coca-Cola 600.

The traction compound, which also is known as PJ1 TrackBite, is intended to help add a second groove. It was sprayed on the upper lane of the 1.5-mile oval Saturday night. Crew chiefs were informed of the move before it was applied.

Seeking to improve passing on the track after a lackluster All-Star Race, Charlotte applied VHT to its surface before Coca-Cola 600 practice.

“Based on feedback from the industry after the Xfinity race, we applied light refresh coats of the traction agent to the same areas that were originally treated,” Cup Series director Richard Buck said during Sunday’s driver’s meeting for the longest race of the season.
